Framing the View: A Collaborative Approach to Timeless Design

The vision for this project was shaped through a close and ongoing collaboration between the design team and a client whose creative perspective was both informed and distinct. With a professional background in fashion and a deep personal passion for art, the homeowner approached the process with a refined eye, valuing detail, composition, and the ability for a space to evolve over time. From the outset, the goal was not only to create a beautiful home, but one that could serve as a backdrop for expression.

A Design Parti Rooted in Perspective

At the core of the design is a clear and intentional parti: a singular line of sight that begins at the front door and extends through the home to the pool house beyond. This axial view establishes both order and experience - guiding movement, framing moments, and creating a sense of continuity throughout.

While the home maintains the traditional bones of a center hall colonial, the interior plan opens to allow for expansive sightlines and visual connection between spaces. Each threshold is carefully considered, allowing one room to unfold into the next. The result is a sequence of spaces that feel both structured and fluid, where perspective becomes a defining feature of daily life.

Collaboration Across Disciplines

Realizing a vision at this scale requires more than alignment. It calls for true collaboration, anchored by a trusted advisor to lead and coordinate the many layers of complexity involved. Serving in this role, the design team worked alongside the architect of record, landscape architect, and a network of skilled artisans and fabricators, ensuring each discipline contributed to a cohesive whole.

From custom millwork to material transitions and exterior detailing, every element was thoughtfully coordinated. The dialogue between interior and exterior, architecture and landscape, concept and craft, ensured that no detail was considered in isolation. Instead, each decision reinforced the broader vision, elevating both the design intent and its execution.

Extending the Experience Outdoors

The connection between interior and exterior spaces was not an afterthought, but an extension of the parti itself. Sightlines continue beyond the walls of the home, drawing the eye outward and reinforcing a sense of openness.

A four-season lanai serves as a transitional space, blurring the boundary between indoors and out while supporting year-round use. Beyond, the landscape is designed as a series of destinations—spaces for gathering, recreation, and quiet retreat. Material continuity and spatial alignment ensure that the exterior feels as considered and integrated as the interior.

A Neutral Framework for Expression

A palette of refined, neutral materials establishes a calm and cohesive foundation that allows other elements to take focus.

This intentional simplicity creates space for the homeowners’ art collection and creative expression to evolve over time. Color, texture, and personality are introduced through these layers, rather than fixed architectural gestures. Subtle references to the client’s background in fashion can be seen in the attention to proportion, materiality, and the layering of elements—each contributing to a composition that feels both curated and effortless.
